June 2026
Hello, world!
President's Note
It is my great pleasure to be writing a note to you all as the incoming President of the Nanaimo Arts Council. It seems only fitting to start with an acknowledgement of Steven Dennis, the outgoing president, who has done an immense amount of work for and with this community over the last 3 years. I am excited, and honoured, to be following in his footsteps for this role!Â
This June newsletter is a proud moment for us at the NAC, marking a return to our monthly mailer since the loss of our website and mailing lists last year. We hope you enjoy it’s return, and are inspired to contribute to it as it grows. Non-members can also subscribe, so feel free to forward it to anyone in your community who you think would find it interesting.
Our focus at the NAC for the second half of the year is to ensure stability and enable growth. We will continue to deliver our regular programming including Ekphrastic Poetry Awards, an Art Demo at the Night Market, Artwalk, and the publication of the 2026 Sea Wolf Literary Review. We are also exploring ways to broaden our offerings to include in-person meetups for members and a digital arts program.Â
I’d like to close with a thank you to our donors, sponsors, funders, partners – without whom none of this would be possible – and an acknowledgement of our wonderful members who make this work worth doing!
                                                – Jamie Ashton, President
