CALL TO ARTISTS!

2024 EMERGING TALENT EXHIBITION

The Nanaimo Arts Council invites artists ages 18-29 to participate in its first annual Emerging Talent Exhibition sponsored by the Port Harbour Authority in 2024. The theme is ‘Life on the Waterfront’.

We invite you to express your historical or contemporary perspective about Nanaimo’s waterfront, a remarkable defining feature of the city.

Phase 1: Artwork selection

NAC will select up to twenty (20) original 2D works of art from a photograph of your art based on the waterfront theme. For guidelines on photographing your art, see ‘Art Submission Rules and Procedures’.

Art submissions open: September 9
Art submissions close: October 11

Exhibition goes live: October 18

Award Ceremony: TBA

Phase 2: Judging and Awards

You must submit your art to the jurors at a time and place to be named. Two jurors, Chai Duncan, a Vancouver Island University (VIU) Professor and View Gallery Curator, and Darcie-Li Morrison, a VIU visual art student, will select the top four pieces.

NAC will award $800 in prizes to artists whose artworks the jurors select.

  • First place: $350
  • Second place: $200
  • Third place: $150
  • Fourth place: $50

Phase 3: Award Ceremony and Exhibition

All accepted submissions will be exhibited online in the Sun Star Gallery and a 12-week exhibition in a local venue. You will have time to prepare the art for hanging. We will provide details.

In October, Nanaimo Arts Council will host a Reception and Award Ceremony for all participating artists. The winning artists will learn their award level at the ceremony.
